Principal Clinical Scientist (Band 8a) University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust (Based at Salisbury District Hospital) The closing date is 19th June 2023 An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (WGLS - Salisbury) for a full-time permanent position as a Principal Clinical Scientist to join our dynamic team of genomic scientists. HCPC registration and experience in complex variant interpretation (SNV and/or CNV) are essential requirements of the role. The WGLS is a new integrated genomics testing service formed from the amalgamation of Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, now WGLS (Salisbury) and Molecular Pathology which is based at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). The WGLS is also a member of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub. Employment will be with UHS but the role will be based within Salisbury District Hospital. There are future plans to re-locate to a joint facility with WGLS (Southampton) in the Southampton area once a suitable site has been identified (minimum 1 year notice prior to relocation). Job responsibilities: You will join our diagnostic Rare and Inherited Disease team who are committed to patient-centered service provision through accurate and timely data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of genomic information. Attention to detail is essential to ensure that patient results are delivered in a safe and efficient way in order to direct patient management and therapeutic decisions. Key components of the role will be: report authorisation and responsibility for service delivery in a specified area of the department including line management of scientists. You will also be involved in contributing to the training and education of all grades of staff within the section and in liaising with other healthcare professionals to develop and maximise the effectiveness of the service. What we are looking for: an HCPC registered scientist with considerable diagnostic laboratory experience; excellent knowledge of human genetics and the ability to critically analyse and interpret complex scientific data. PhD or FRCPath Part 1 is desirable.
